Boy Blake Nelson Books
This is my first Blake Nelson book but it will not be my last. He captures the frenetic chaos of being a high school student with refreshing clarity. The themes and situations were the same when I went to school in the 80s. Well written, interesting sure to be a top summer young adult read.Tags : Amazon.com: Boy (9781481488136): Blake Nelson: Books,Blake Nelson,Boy,Simon Pulse,1481488139,Boys & Men,Coming Of Age,Social Themes - Dating & Sex,Cliques (Sociology),Dating (Social customs),Dating (Social customs);Fiction.,Friendship,High schools,High schools;Fiction.,Popularity,Schools,Schools;Fiction.,Children: Young Adult (Gr. 10-12),Fiction-Coming of Age,Girl; Perks of being a wallflower; realistic contemporary; paranoid park; boy protagonist,JUVENILE,Juvenile Fiction,Juvenile Grades 10-12 Ages 15+,TEEN'S FICTION - COMING OF AGE,United States,YOUNG ADULT FICTION,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Boys & Men,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Coming of Age,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Social Themes Dating & Sex,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Social Themes Friendship,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Social Themes New Experience,Young Adult FictionSocial Themes - Friendship,Young Adult FictionSocial Themes - New Experience
Boy Blake Nelson Books Reviews
Gavin Meeks is trying to figure out who he is and what he wants to do. That involves navigating parties, dating, love and manners especially since he is a popular one in his high school. Because once Gavin starts figuring out what he wants to do the story gets thrilling. This is a thoughtful coming of age story. Nelson is a great storyteller. I couldn't put it down.
Nobody does coming-of-age like Blake Nelson (I mean, truly), and Boy is no exception. In Boy, we meet Gavin, but we don't just meet him — we enter into his world. Here, Nelson invites us to stay long enough to be reminded of *exactly* what it feels like to be in high school and be weird, to discover doors that open up to new worlds, and to have the kinds of firsts you'll remember forever. Meeting the characters in Boy felt like making a new group of friends, and I don't doubt I'll revisit this book often, as I do with many of Nelson's books.
I loved this book. How often do we get authors who really understand what it's like to be young?
Just like in 'GIRL'(which I also loved)he captures those elusive feelings of love and despair and longing and fear-young adulthood-in this book, and I just want to pick it up and start reading again. I miss Gavin already.
“In the sweep-you-up style of GIRL, BOY is for anyone, teen or otherwise, who discovered their true passion thanks to the inspiration of another. It’s the story of how art shapes us, love inspires us, and passion helps us take action – an important story for the times. And totally classic Blake Nelson!”
I just love how Nelson writes average teens and does so in a way where the voice is just pitch-perfect. An enjoyable ride as Gavin figures out what he wants in his life, watches huge and uncomfortable changes happen in his family, and tries to figure out what it is he wants in a romantic relationship...as well as in his non-romantic relationships.
Not as good as Girl but an easy light read.
Excellent!! I totally recommend this book. As always with Blake Nelson's work, the voice of the main character is so alive that you feel you are reading a real first person account of someone's life rather than a novel. This is a fast paced, entertaining book that will appeal to all.
